how do i cut a part of an image out on powerpoint without using the image
cropping tool?

What is it you're trying to do? If you don't want to use the cropping tool,
then we need to know what you're trying to accomplish while avoiding it.

To do any futher editing such as trimming (Check out Troy's blog for the
tutorial:

will need to make use of graphical editing tools such as Photoshop and
fireworks.
