Image slices and tables help

I created a simple image and sliced it up for a table. The only two cells in the table
that will have text is the navigation column on the left and the main body. I wanted the
table to fill the height of the browser window even if the main content cell does not have
sufficient content to take up that much room. So far so good and it appears as desired...

The problem I am having is that if I enter too much text into the main content cell, it
starts to drag cells on the left side of the table and the table becomes distorted. I
need the main content cell along with the other middle row cells across the table to
expand down without any of the top or bottom cells changing. I had tried setting the
width and height properties for all the *fixed* cells but their height still gets
distorted. I set the navigation column cell, main content cell, and those in-between to
100% height and the table height to 100% and other combinations but this is what I get...

I have also tried slicing it up many different ways but I still keep having the same
problems.

I must be making this tougher than what it needs to be. Any suggestions would be
greatly appreciated.

Did I just get a little too carried away with slicing it up? I've done much simpler
image slices and tables in the same manner but they seemed to have been more symetrical
with even rows and columns say like a tic-tac board.
