Yes -- I have the most recent drivers and yes, I've written ATI -- they (of
course) say it's a Publisher issue. I think I have the most recent directx --
how do I tell???

There are thousands of user's of Publisher that merrily use the product and never
have a problem. I have used Publisher since version 1.0 in all sorts of computers.
When Publisher balks it is usually a driver, a new application that has overwritten
system files or too few resources,i.e. RAM... Microsoft can not account for every new
piece of hardware that is installed on a system. If you found your solution by
tweaking Publisher, that is wonderful.

I have an ATI Radeon video card, it has served me well for four years...

One other thing, I dual boot with MCE 5 and XP Pro SP2 on the same HDD.
I've never had this problem on XP Pro. It only occurs in MCE and then
only with Pub 2003. It never happens in Pub 97, 98, 2000, or Pub XP in
MCE. Just in Pub 2003 only on MCE. So it may not be a Pub problem but
could very well be an MS problem stemming from MCE.

3 of the photos were 300dpi; the 4th was only 72 dpi! Yes, I have DirectX
9.0c -- I tried all the diagnostics and everything worked fine. Everything
else works/displays correctly -- except images in Publisher 2003. That tells
me the issue IS publisher related.

I've read just about every support document at ATI -- can't find anything
similar. This post is the only one I've found with this problem.

I run MS XP Pro -- 512 MB ram -- 1.8 Pentium 4 -- ONLY recent difference is
the Radon 9550 (which I purchased to support my Samsung 21.3" monitor).

Any one else have any ideas for us with this problem??

thanks,

Of course, hardware manufacturers will rarely if ever admit to their drivers
causing problems, especially when the problem is with their latest version.

Microsoft are currently looking at this problem despite the fact that it is
not their fault.

I suggest you ask to speak with the person's supervisor, and keep doing so
until you find someone who isn't following a script that avoids doing any
kind of problem-solving.

However, some users have reported the same symptoms on Windows XP
Professional or Home, running ATI cards with Publisher 2003, and have not
been able to fix it by trusting all templates and add-ins.

Doens't using ATI cards under Windows XP MCE require a different driver than
under Pro or Home editions?

Perhaps there is some feature of the ATI MCE drivers that conflicts with
Publisher when Publisher is not trusting templates and add-ins...
But that's just a shot in the dark, as I have no MCE machines or machines
with new high-end ATI cards to test with. If you want to buy me some, I'll
be happy to do so :)

Had a similar problem but just fixed it by downloading a new driver and
version of the Catalyst control center. The new driver is 8.205.0.0, 1/4/2006

Could you tell me exactly how and where you did this? I am very hesitate to
do this not knowing exactly what I am doing.. but I am desperate.. I use
publisher all the time and hate having to turn my graphics accelarator down
all the time to use the media center. Any info would be greatly
appreciated!!

Simply visit www.ati.com - hover over Drivers and Software and let the
website guide you to the latest drivers.
