images don't appear in publisher 2003

Trying to view publisher newsletter on my new computer and when I open no
graphics are there.. just empty spaces. Both computers are xp and using
publisher 2003. Files with missing graphics are 2002. They open fine on old
computer with 2003 but not new computer. When I go into graphic manager I
can see the photos but can't get them back into file. Any one's help would
be appreciated!

Go to PICTURES
A window will open - PICTURE DISPLAY.

If Reefer's suggestion doesn't work, I'd suggest updating your graphics
drivers.

I've had the same problem - has your new machine got an ATI card? Mine is an
X800 and the only way I can get the graphics to show is to turn down the
graphics hardware acceleration setting - (from the display settings) this
resolves the problem.
I have written to ATI requesting a solution but no reply as yet beyond the
automated response.
I hope this helps in the meantime.

Yes!! I have the same card!! Could you tell me exactly how to do this and
what did you turn it down to? If this works I will also write to ATI... Just
need to know where to do this exactly.. thanks so much in advance!!

GSDEE and ezwez, are your X800s PCI Express or AGP versions?
Thanks!

Mine is PCI Express... I did what you said below but it sill doesnt' help.
If I am understanding what I did is correct. could you give me a detailed
how to.. I am sure I did it ok but want to make sure because it didn't solve
the problem.. I really would love to get to the bottom of this before my next
month's newsletter is due!!

Thanks ezwez.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Display > Settings > Advanced > Troubleshoot
and drag the slider bar down to None, click OK and restart your computer.

Ok Ed "Bingo"!! But.. what exactly does this mean that the slider is all the
way off?
My graphics will not be accelarated? Is this a problem with this card?
Thank you so much for the "sort of" solution!!! It will work until we get
something else!!
Thanks again!!!!

:
Put the slider all the back to full and instead try this fix that worked
for me.

Open pub and go to:
tool/options/security/macro security/trusted publishers and put a check
mark in Trust all installed add-ins and templates.

This solution working means that there is a problem with the X800 drivers
provided by ATI
This workaround should do until ATI provides a driver update that fixes the
problem.

Some folks inside Microsoft are looking at this problem too, and may be able
to do more than we can about it.

I went there and its already checked.

Well thought I was out of the woods.. publisher now works but the media
center will not work now.. Going to try and put back as it was and hopefully
media center will again work!!

Ok Now Media Center works and my pictures are gone again.. So guess we just
play a game of slide the bar when I need to use Publisher... geez.. but
thanks again for the help!

Seems Media Center requires the hardware acceleration.

You might try notching up the acceleration so that it's somewhere in the
middle

Frank, are you using the X800 card?

Thanks,
Here's the deal. I've got a ATI 9600xt card with the very latest
drivers. I'm running WMC 5 OS, fully updated. I've got every version of
Pub installed from 97 up to 2003. Pics show on all version except 2003.
Two solutions that will work for me to view pics on 2003 are:
1) Bump the slider back until directdraw and direct3d are disabled
(that's 3 clicks back from full).
2) Or put the check mark into trusted and run full acceleration.
I prefer solution #2.

Thanks,
One other thing I noticed. A few of use are running the same combo and
having the same problem:
1) ATI cards
2) WMC
3) Pub 2003

Backing down the slider is the least acceptable work around. Putting the
check mark in trusted the least intrusive. And since the problem can be
completely corrected in Pub it is the main suspect as the root problem.

Hi -- I'm having the same problem after installing an ATI Radon 9550 card;
reducing acceleration is only fix that seems to work for me. I tried the
"trusted" solution -- doesn't work. I'm hoping the MS guys will find a fix; I
don't want to have to change setting everytime I use Publisher.
