Import resources using Lotus Notes?

Is it possible to import resources into Project 2003 using my company's Lotus
Notes database rather than enter names manually? Thanks!

Hello Carolyn,

Assuming the Notes db can be exported to a file format that Project can
use (excel, tab delimited, comma delimited) you could certainly import
the into the resource sheet in Project.

I don't believe there is a direct import like adding resources from an
Outlook or Exchange address book.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Thank you for your reply. If I'm able to get my Notes in a comma delimited
file, is there a certain format that it should be in? No headers on columns,
I assume?
Also, when I go to "Insert-New Resources From" in Project, the only
available options are "Active Directory" or "Address Book". Is there an
import method for Resources other than this Insert pulldown? One that would
allow me to point to a file that was created from my Notes db?

Thanks again.

Hello Carolyn,

You're welcome for the assistance. You can use headings or not as you
wish. During the import wizard process (more details below) you will be
able to specify whether the data contains heading rows or not.

Once you have created the comma delimited file, you'll need to import
the resources into a new file or an existing file. If you are importing
into an existing file, open the Project file you wish to import into.
If you are importing into a new file, you'll have that option during
import. Choose File > Open and in the files of type listing select All
Files. Navigate to the comma delimited file you created and choose
Open. The Import Wizard should launch and guide you through the steps
to map the fields from the Notes file into the Project resource fields.
Chances are there will be several pieces of data you may attempt to
import that there is not a direct match to in one of the standard
resource fields. You can always import into one of the text fields
(text1 through text30) to capture additional data from your notes file
that Project doesn't directly use.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
