Hi,

I have had 2 instances where a user a has exported a jpg to word & the file
increased quite alot.
The first file was 250k, this increased to 2mb
The second was 500k - This increased to 50MB

I cannot beleive that word would need increase the size of this file so much
to see this jpg.

Any ideas

Hi James,

What version of Word? How was the graphic imported
(Insert=>Picture from File or ???)

If you use File=>Save as and choose 'Word document'
as the file type and a new name does the file size decrease?

In File=>Properties is the preview box checked?

Bob,

Office 97
Customer selecting insert, picture, from file & picking up the jpg from there.
Preview box not checked.
You suggested File, save as & select Word. - This does not work in 97.
Any more suggestions would be appreciated - Thanks

These expansions are normal--especially if you're using
RTF--because the visual information in the jpg files are
being encoded in what is essentially text. A better way is
to put a link to the image in the Word document and not the
image itself. An even better way is to save the document in
HTML format...

Hi James,

There are a couple of possibilities.
As mentioned in another post, you may
see the issue if you save in RTF format,
however you may also be running into the
issue here.

Another possibility is that File=>Versions is being
used, or that a document is corrupted.

Check to see if you get the same result in a new, blank document.
Not sure what you're seeing when you say that File=>Save As
and choosing Microsoft Word Document (.doc) does not work.
