Importing contacts from Outlook Express v5.02 for Mac

T

Tim Richards

I've been putting this off for a year but now it¹s time to finally junk my
old Mac G3. I¹ve saved the Outlook Express MAIN IDENTITY folder from that
computer and want to import my address book and e-mails into ENTOURAGE on my
new Mac, which is running OS 10.5.6.

Please note I was unable to export the data from OE on the old computer as
OE crashed every time I tried to do this. It has clearly become corrupted in
some way and I can now no longer even open the app to read the emails.
However, someone said I could maybe drag the IDENTITY folder into the MS
User Data folder on my new computer and that Entourage might be able to
import the info. Is that possible? If so it¹s my last chance! I¹ve
deliberately not created an address book yet on Entourage to avoid any
conflict of format or fields with the one I wish to import. Here¹s some
further info:

1. The MAIN IDENTITY folder from OE contains two big folders: DATABASE (88
Mb) and MESSAGES (1.88 Gb). I assume they contain all the info I want - it¹s
just a question of transferring it.
2. In my OE address book there was a COMMENTS section for each entry,
containing important info relating to that person. I need to retain this,
but I¹m not sure what field it will come under in Entourage Contacts.
3. Entourage has already created a DATABASE folder of its own in a folder
called OFFICE 2004 IDENTITIES. This creates a problem if I drag my old
DATABASE folder in there, one will have to be renamed what shall I do? Is
it all hopeless?

Please help!

Tim
