Importing e-mail addresses

I am trying to import many e-mial addresses from a word 2000 doc to my outlook 2000
I can change the format of the word doc to txt etc. but I cannot seem to get the e-mail addresses into Outlook 2000
I need the addresses to be in my contacts lists. and distribution list
