importing emailed attachments

I am working colloratively with several partners. We are all using
publisher...though only I have Vista. I can not get their emailed documents
to open in publisher. The publisher documents once downloaded from attachment
are directed to windows site without my choice...is this a default setting of
sorts? How do I create a path to publisher?
