importing PST backup files to a new Outlook installation

I know you are trying to be helpfull but I do not know what to do after it is
on my hard drive. I open office and it merely brings up the data since I
loaded it 5 days ago. I know I have to execute the new pst data file to load
it but no one explained how.
Writting:
step1
step2
step3
would be helpful. I cancelled my trip due to the lack of my data available
on my laptop. I will gladly pay for instructions at this time.
Thank you,
Arthur

Assuming pst on hd, file properties read only is off ( in IE select file,
right click/properties)
you have NOT overwritten any existing pst.

Then within OL, File/Open/Data File (Personal Folders) browse to location of
your pst.
The new pst will then be shown within OL Folders

From there it is up to you, you can move mail/folders to the other/default
pst that was created when you installed OL.
The default OL2003 pst will be a different file format to OL2k. It is
apparently more robust and doesnt have the size limit associated with OL2k
format pst. The 2003 format pst is not readable/able to be opened by earlier
versions of OL.
Once you have moved your mail/folders to the default OL2003 pst you can
close the OL2k pst.

Okay, take a deep breath and step back a little. First, you need to make
sure that you are the E-mail Service Option that you are trying to get the
"second .pst" file into is running with the E-mail Service Option as
"Corporate or Workgroup" NOT "Internet Only" (use > Help > About Microsoft
Outlook to determine the E-mail Service Option that you are running). If you
are running the "Internet Only" option, you can only see one .pst file at a
time and will be unable to open the second .pst file to move/copy the
calendar over. Use the Tools > Options > Mail Services tab > Reconfigure
Mail Support button to change from "Internet Only" to "Corporate or
Workgroup" option (NOTE: you MUST have the Office CD to complete this
reconfiguration).
After you are in the "Corporate of Workgroup" option mode, you need to "Add"
a "Personal Folders" in the Tools > Services > Services tab. Just locate
your "second .pst" in "my documents" - where you copied the "original .pst
file to - when it wants to Open/Create the new Personal File that you are
trying to create. You can then follow the instructions about copying the
contents of one contact folder in the "second .pst file" to the original .pst
file.
Hope these instructions help. If not, let me know where you're having
problems and I'll trying to get you pointed in the correct direction. If I
can do it (and I did), you really can do it too.
