importng contacts from excell

I have been having difficulty with completing an import of contacts from an
excel file into Outlook 2003. After chosing an excel file an error message
comes up saying the process cannot be completed because there is no
selected area in the excel file. I wonder whether that has to do with the
way the list is formatted in the excel file, does anyone happen to know
what might help?

You must first name a range in your spreadsheet before you can import data
from it:
