In Excel, what formula would return a numeric value based on a ce.

I am having problems finding a formula that will return a numeric value based
on the fill color of the cell. For example if I have a range of cells, I
would like to pick out only the cells that have a particular fill color to
use in another calculation. Excel is great at returning a format based on a
value, but I want to return a value based on a color format. Can anyone help?
