In Office 2003 I saved my presentation as a slide show

When I save it as a pss file, it doesn't come up automatically as a slide
show like it did in 2000. Has anyone else had that problem - maybe I have a
bad version.

This is normal behavior in any version of Microsoft PowerPoint when saving a PowerPoint Presentation (.ppt) as
a PowerPoint Show (.pps).

You will need to start Microsoft PowerPoint first, then open the PowerPoint Show.

Click "Start" (a.k.a. the Start Menu).
Point to "Programs".
Point to "Microsoft Office".
Click on "Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003".

After Microsoft PowerPoint has loaded, click on the "File" menu, then click "Open".
In the Files of type box, select "Presentations and Shows".

It might help to change the current view to "Details" by selecting it from the views icon (which is to the
left of the Tools menu in the Open dialog box).
If you don't see the Type column, right click on the "Name" column and click on "Type".

Now find and single click on the Microsoft PowerPoint Show, then click "Open".

Alternatively, you can double-click the Microsoft PowerPoint Show to open it.

On the "File" menu, click "Save As...".

In the Save as type box, select "Presentation", and then click "Save".

The difference between a PowerPoint Presentation (.ppt) and a PowerPoint Show (.pps) is how the file opens
when double-clicked in Windows Explorer. The default action for opening a PowerPoint Show when double-clicked
in Windows Explorer is to open it in Microsoft PowerPoint in Slide Show mode.

In addition, there is a small difference in file size between a PowerPoint Presentation (.ppt) and a
PowerPoint Show (.pps) when saved using both formats in Microsoft PowerPoint.

Alternatively, you could just change the extension from .pps to .ppt. This method does little (if any) harm to
your PowerPoint Presentation.

NOTE: There is no difference in how PowerPoint Presentations (.ppt), PowerPoint Shows (.pps), and PowerPoint
Templates (.pot) open in the Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer. This is because the Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer is
only that, a viewer.

It is not normal behaviour. File association is completed on installation of
Microsoft Office or the stand alone suits. Something the end user does
whether it be consciously or unconsciously is usually the reason that file
associations become undone.

If you double-click the file to open it (like from My Documents or another
window), the file should open in slide show view.

If you open PowerPoint and then use File/Open to open the PPS file, it will
open in Normal (editing) view.

Does that help?

Michael is correct. This problem has nothing to do with the version of Office
you are using. The file associations will need to be fixed, or a
reinstallation/repair might sort out the problem.

Is it a PPS file or is it a PSS file? You mentioned PSS the first time, but
I just assumed it was a typo. Maybe it wasn't? PPS is what you want.

It could be just that your file association for PPS is messed up. This
article should help you repair it:

Changing a File Association, Repairing broken File Associations
http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00355.htm

To give you a few more specifics for PPS files that may not be included in
the FAQ article...
When you to to My Documents then open Tools|Folder Options and click on the
File Types tab, scroll down to the PPS option. Click the Advanced button,
and make sure the Show action has "C:\Program Files\Office
XP\Office10\POWERPNT.EXE" /s "%1" (or whatever the path is to your PPT EXE
file). Then make sure to set the Show action as default if it isn't already.

LOL!

Amazing.

Great minds and all that rot.
