Including OneNote with Windows Vista

A

Adahn

...instead of the ambiguous Windows Journal?

Why have two [incompatible] programs for the same job? OneNote would be a
great "killer" addition to Vista's set of accessories, even if it is some
cut-down version...

C

Chris H.

Hundreds of thousands of trial OneNote versions are already included with
portable computers now, not just Tablet PCs, Andre. How many laptops or
Tablet PCs do you own? How many OEM web sites have you visited to see the
"included software"?

You see I kind of thought it fitted quite well into the Office pack of
cards, especially as now days they stick Infopath in there which is not your
traditional type of Office product.

As a stand alone for around £80 (straight purchase, no VLA) I would question
its' business advantage above a combination of existing products.

and my tablet didn't bother having it there on purchase!

Good idea, but I think it's going to stay as an Office app, simply because
it's too valuable to reside in the OS, where it probably wouldn't get much

Exactly. Valuable enough to let Vista one-up MacOSX on the merit of
preinstalled apps rather than just playing catch-up..

How about an un-upgradable "Express" edition or something, which, say, only
allows one section, with no sharing, no flag summaries, no research pane
etc. but also tighter integration with Vista-specific stuff, such as the
Search Engine and so on?

This is too good to pass up, MS..

I think as a small application it should come as part of Office but not free
with the OS.

If we're talking about catching up with OSX then how about an iLife type of
thing with Vista. One of the great selling points of OSX is that out of the
box you've got nearly everything you need - you hardly need to buy software
which is handy seeing as you can't very easily ;-)

And one more point ... Expose (imagine the accent on the 'e') on OSX -
fantastic feature if working in apps like Cubase - any chance of a
derivitive in Vista? One of the best features.

It has 1.2GB and to be honest it's not that bad ut it tends to stall quite a
bit and have to catch up to the pen.

The other strange thing though is that with Vista it will on occasion not
see my wireless network at all even though 5 minutes before it did and the
other laptop did.

Windows Journal is a Tablet PC-only application, while OneNote can run on a
