Inconsistent attachment stripping

Gordon Jones

I have added a new computer to a LAN. Newbie is a Vista, Oldie is an XP.
Both have Outlook 2002 installed, as identical as I can make them. Nebie is
primarily for production and development, Oldie for backup storage. I've
noticed Newbie received e-mail with attachments specified, but the
attachments aren't there. I changed my options to leave new mail on the ISP,
and have gone back to Oldie to see if the attaachment is there; it is, and I
can open/view it. Therefore it appears that Outlook[Newbie] is stripping the
attachments and not giving me a message to that effect.

In studying the problem more, I saved the attachment on Oldie, in order to
send it to myself as "Do We All Feel This Way.msg" (its Subject name was "Do
We All Feel This Way...msg.msg" on the incoming e-mail). I used the Windows
Explorer's Right-click>Send to>Mail Recipient option and sent it, and
received a message back Unable to Send....

On the Sent Message copy, I could see that the Subject was "Do We All Feel
This Way.msg" but the attachment was "Do We All Feel This Way...msg.msg",
which makes me believe that the ".msg" was originally something other than a
..msg, perhaps a .jpeg file.

Questions: 1. Where can I find out about .msg files? 2. Why would one
copy of Outlook 2002 allow me to receive and read the message, and the other
copy of Outlook 2002 not allow it?
