Incorrect format in mailmerge Excel and Word

I have an Excel 2003 database (membership list) whoich I mail merge with Word
2003. It has been working for 2 years with no problems. Now it has seemed
to get itself in a state!!!

For a while I was unable to connect to the database, but I think I have
resolved that, but am left with an annoyance. The member number (Number no
decimals in Excel) is being displayed with one decimal place in Word.

Any ideas????
