Sometimes when I open the .ldb index files in Notepad I can see a list of
users who have the back end open. Other times it is garbage - little
squares and so on. I find it useful to know who has it open if I have the
occasion to make a change to the BE so I can notify users to close out
temporarily.
Why do I see garbage sometimes?

The second paragraph at Determining the workstation which caused the
Microsoft Access MDB corruption
http://www.granite.ab.ca/access/corruption/workstation.htm

"Note that if you see unusual characters such as "†" you must close
the ldb file, not Notepad, and open the ldb file in Notepad using the
Encoding: ANSI option rather than the default Encoding: Unicode
option."

But also read the note in the first paragraph.

I just asked you to not follow me around--

I am not going to put up with your bullying, Tony

Mine is not mis-information.

I am merely telling the guy how to get away from this LDB crap.

I repeat; do _NOT_ follow me around and chase me like this on the
internet, Tony.

I do not feel safe because you have previously fucked with my life in
the real world.

I will absolutely not stand for your stalking.

Thanks

Well Tony, I disagree.

Anyone who has done any work with SQL Server recognizes that yes, SQL
Server has some nice tools. However for most folks it is overkill.
Using an Access MDB to store data for a few thousand or tens of
thousands of records works very will for them. It is not worth their
time or trouble to use SQL Server.

I disagree.
Nothing is more complex.

Any database that has a few thousand records-- should _DEFINITELY_ be
in SQL Server.

But the point of the matter is that I've asked you to stop stalking me
like this-- following me around on the internet.

I believe that you are acting criminally by attacking me like this,

Tony;

I have asked you several times to stop following me around like this.

It is a little bit obnoxious to contact the police over this-- any
sane person would agree.

All I know is that I've asked you to stop stalking me IMMEDIATELY.

Don't follow me around and attack me in every post I make. I can not
stand for your abuse any longer.

I insist that you stop following me around like this.

I ask you to stop following me around like this; it is unfair and
illegal for you to stalk me like this.

Thanks

And again Tony-- If I wanted to do something about your criminal
harrassment; I would probably contact the Mounties.

from
http://www.duhaime.org/LegalResourc...ticleId/95/Canadas-Criminal-Law-Stalking.aspx

Stalking is a crime which Canadian criminal law calls criminal
harassment.

It is clearly defined at section 264 of Canada's Criminal Code.

The Code states that no person shall, without lawful authority and
knowing that another person is harassed (or recklessly as to whether
the other person is harassed):

repeatedly follow the other person, or anyone known to them, from
place to place;

repeatedly communicate with, either directly or indirectly, the other
person or anyone known to them;

"beset" or watch a place where the other person is visiting, lives or
works; or

engage in threatening conduct directed at the other person or any
member of their family.

The punishment for stalking can be as high as a five year jail term.

Aaron please get back on your medications. From following this thread and
doing a Google of both your name and Tony's, it appears that you are the one
doing the stalking.

I post one (and only one) comment about your stalking behaviour and you
accuse me of stalking? You defintely have a problem.

Plonk!

David;

That is not correct.

I have been writing SQL Server every day for more than a decade.
I don't need to be stalked by you on this newsgroup.

I request you to stop following me around and posting, chasing me
around on the newsgroups.

That is my right-- to be protected from stalkers.

Thanks for agreeing to leave me alone 100%
I refuse to be brought into your smear campaign.

I know 100% what I'm talkign about 100% of the time.

I'm a certified DBA and I chew through more data before breakfast than
you have in a lifetime.
