Insert Above Table

W

WesZ

I created a single page form out of a table, 6 columns by
15 rows, not quite the length, but the width of a standard
8.5 X 11 piece of paper. I have 3" of space between the
bottom of the table to the bottom margine.

I now want to add text above the top of the table, naming
my table, but I can't seem to find a way to "Insert" any
text above the table. I can add text below the table, but
not the top.

What do I need to do to place text above the table?

Thanks,

Wes

Hi, Wes,

Which version of Word are you using? I think it makes a difference...

In Word 2000 or later: Put the cursor at the beginning of the top left cell
of the table and press Enter. That should create a paragraph above the table
instead of one in the cell.

If I remember correctly, that didn't work in Word 97. In that case, put the
cursor in the top left cell and select Table > Split Table to get the same
effect.

I'm using Word 2000. I can't put the cursor anywhere but
the upper left cell, the cursor will not go outside of the
table.

But I did just try the Table>Split and that did it!

Thanks Jay!

Hi Wes,

In fact when Jay suggested that all you needed to do is put the cursor at
the beginning of the top left cell, he meant INSIDE that cell (at the fisrt
available position), not in the top-left area outside of that cell...

:)

I tried that and it also worked. I guess my mind was set
on being inside that cell would only give me a line break
inside the cell.

Thanks!

FWIW, there may be a version in which that doesn't work, but it worked for
me in Word 97.

If it were in any other cell, or if it were not to the left of any text in
the cell, you would get a paragraph break. It is really not logical that
this should work the way it does, but luckily it does!
