Insert picture from byte array

I see many examples of how to load a Picture into a word document from a
image file. Is there a way to insert a picture that is stored in an array of
bytes? I'm getting a byte array from a web service and just want the picture
in the doc; storing to disk just to load it again seems like a kludge.

Word's object model doesn't have support for this, no. If we're talking Word
2003, then you could perhaps manage it if the document were saved in
WordProcessingML (XML) and closed.
