inserting a shape with Office XP in Word

With the new MS Office XP version of Word when I want to draw an arrow for
example a giant grey dotted box appears and says create drawing here. Do
eventually draw an arrow but after lots of fiddling - this kind of image is
small & trying to navigate around this giant box is hopeless!! Anyone
experienced this & if so do you know how to remove it?

You can disable this behavior by clearing the check box for "Automatically
create drawing canvas when inserting AutoShapes" on the General tab of Tools
| Options. If you later need a drawing canvas, you can still get one using
Insert | Picture | New Drawing.
