Inserting Picture into Word Document Causes Freezing

Whenever I attempt to insert a picture into a Microsoft
Word document the entire program freezes. I get the
hourglass icon and it simply never goes away. I have to
use the task manager in order to force-quit Microsoft
Word.

In an effort to resolve this problem I completely
uninstalled OfficeXP and then reinstalled the program. No
help there. The problem still occurs.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

: to save it as a bit map or a gif file, though you may lose

Are you inserting TIFFS? TIFFS are notorious hogs.
