Install Office 2007 with older versions (i.e. 2003)

My hope is that we can test Office 2007 on some of our machines with
Access 2003 installed also. The install goes fine and we can choose to
leave Access 2003 and it works to leave it there. The problem is when
a user goes between Office 2003 and 2007, that it goes through the
re-initialize process as if its a new user each time.

This wouldn't be a big deal if it didn't take about 5 minutes for
Access 2007.

Any suggestions to fix this one.

Thanks,

Richard

The 'reregistration' is quite normal when two Office versions are installed.
The version in use is registered in Windows as the active version: when you
go to open the other version, Windows has to reregister the different
version. However, 5 mins does seem an excessive delay - usually one of two
minutes is all that it takes.

Did Office 2007 install without problems and is there sufficient memory
installed on the workstations?

Yeah, no problems at all on the install. Since I installed from a
network location, is it going to the network and updating files or is
it all local?

The computer is fairly new, HP DC7100 (3.2 GHz) and 1 GB of RAM. Also,
running Office 2007 Enterprise if that makes any difference.

Hi Richard,

For the 2007 Office system the first place it should be going is the MS Office Local installation source on your PC (\MSOcache)
folder. It would usually only go for a CD or Office 2007 Network Installation point if there was a missing or broken \MSOCache
folder or content missing from the \Windows\Updates folder.

I am having a similar issue.

I am running Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition SP1.

Prior to installing Office 2007 Enterprise, I had Office 2003 (Word, Excel,
Access, ...) and Access 97.

- When I start Access 2007, the Configuration Process starts and runs for 3
minutes and 45 seconds only if I have previously run Access 2003

In the Application Event Log I get:

Source: MsiInstaller
Event ID: 11728
Product: Microsoft Office Shared MUI (English) 2007 -- Configuration
completed successfully.

I get 18 of them, one for each component of Office 2007.

- When I start Access 2003, a Preparing to Install Windows Dialog box pops
up for only for 1 to 2 seconds only if I have previously run Access 2007.

In the Application Event Log I get:

Source: MsiInstaller
Event ID: 11708
Product: Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 -- Installation failed.

It is taking so long, because it is reconfiguring all the Office 2007
components, not just Access.

I have run multiple versions of Access side by side for many years and this
is hands down the worst because I have to wait almost 4 minutes to start
Access.

MS, please correct this Problem!
