Installation Error

Stumped

I am at a loss to solve this problem with Office 2003. Everything
suggested by Microsoft on their web site and newsgroups does not work.

I have Office 2003 installed on a Windows XP SP2 machine. When I put
the CD in the drive and started autorun.inf, I get an error "
Installation Failed". Nothing more. I even went so far to uninstall
SP2 and reinstall the original Windows XP , SP1a.

I have not tried uninstalling Office because I am concerned I cannot
reinstall and I need to use it daily.

the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.

After furious head scratching, Stumped asked:
