installation of MS Office Professional 2003

I have Windows XP home edition as my OS was pre-loaded
when I bought it a year ago. Now trying to install MS
Office Prof 2003 and was halted by error message #1714
couldn't remove previous version of Word 2002. What do I
need to do inorder not to loose my Word 2002 documents and
also to install MSOP 2003?
