Installing legally on laptop, key code

George

Am using two DESKTOP Win-XP-pro PC's. One has Dell pre-installed Office XP
Professional. The other has "store bought" Office XP Standard. I have the
disks for both of these versions.

In an old note I found where I called Microsoft, the rep said you can
install your Office package on both a desktop and LAPTOP as long as both
PC's are owne/used by the same person.

How doable and how much trouble is this? Will there be complications with
the key code like "sorry" this software has already been installed. Let me
guess, the Dell pre-installed verion of Office XP Professional is going to
be a bear to put on a laptop, right? How about my "store bought" Office XP
standard...will that work?

Thanks,
George

Hi, George. Legally, the Dell OEM copy of Office XP Pro can only be
installed on the computer that Dell put it on... you can't install it on any
other computer, whether desktop or laptop. The store-bought copy of Office
XP Standard can be installed on one desktop and one laptop owned by the same
person as long as the two computers are not used simultaneously. If you have
problems with online activation of the second installation, you can use the
telephone activation method and explain what you're doing to the Microsoft
representative. My personal experience with my copy of Office XP has been
that if it's been more than a year since a license was last activated online,
then there isn't a problem with activating it again online.
