installing msproject2002 with ms sql server 2000

forum, I was hoping someone could guide me out of my
situation. I have recently installed a trial copy of sql
server 2000 to use as my database for msproject 2002. I
have the sql server running on one machine no problmes and
now want to install project 2002 on the other. In my
install (project2002)I have 2 options create a new
database or connect to an existing one. When i try to
create a new databse it replies by saying I do not have
SECURITYADMIN or DBCREATOR priviileges which I do. I even
tried to create new accounts with all privileges and it
still fails. I created a new database with sql privileges
and I get the response the specified MSProjectServerRole
account failed to log on check you spelling and password.
Well I've tried this a million times even changing the
passwords and creating new user logins with all privileges
but still I cannot cretae or connect to a database. I
thank everyone in advance for all responses.

FYI I am using the authentication for both windows and sql
which I belive over-rides the windows authentication Thanks

Claudio thank you for your reply quick clarification: when
you say create a new project server at enterprise manager
what do you mean by that. create a new sql server group
I'm not sure what you mean a new project server. thank you
again for your reply.

Sorry, create a new Project Server database(a empty
database).

TT~

I had a similar issue, but happened even when I was using
an existing database. Are these server new to your
network? They are probably just not "talking" to each
other properly. Because the only way I was finally able
to complete the install was this:

I happened to already have my NT domain accout as an
administrator on our SQL server.

Typically when I install software, I always log on as the
local administrator of the machine, so I did the same for
the Project server and received that error message you
mentioned.

So, I added my NT domain account to the administrators
group on the Project server, and then signed onto that
server using my domain account. Stepped through the
installation process with no problems!!

Jennifer thanks so much for the reply i will visit the
fact about the domains. One issue is I am running sql 2000
server as a trial version on a win2k pro box. I'm planning
on putting it on new server running advanced server2000
but I just wanted to get familiar with the install and
putting projects on the web to use project 2002 pro.
Whoaaaa.... what an experiance. Although the sql server is
running on win2k pro it seems to be running just fine
(keeping fingers crossed) I do the same as you when it
comes to using the local admin accounts to load software i
will add that account on the advanced server 2000 machine
and see if that works and just so I fully understand you
the admin account on my win2k pro box running sql should
be added to the advanced 2k server correct? Thanks again
for all your help this has been so frustrating.

TT ;)
