Installing Office 2000 on a new PC

Richard

Hi,

I have recently bought a new PC because the motherboard on my old one died.
I have Microsoft Office 2000 and I have tried to install it on my new PC but
it is telling me that I do not have an compatible version of Office on my PC.

The PC I have bought came bundled with Microsoft Works 7.0. I have tried
uninstalling this but I get the same error message.

Any reason why this might be so

My guess is that you an upgrade version of Office 2000, and you do not have a
qualifying product for the Office 2000 upgrade on your new computer.

I have Office 2000 Professional. It allowed me to install on my now dead PC
before. My HDD died and I had to rebuild the PC. IE Reinstall Win 2K and
Office and there was no Problems.

My new PC has WinXP Home edition - Could this be causing the problems and is
there a way around it. I have all of my Win 2K cd's still but it does seem a
waste to have to go backwards because of this problem.

The cause of the problem is you do not have a qualifying product. If you are
trying to use Works as a qualifying product, the Works version needs to have
been released prior to Office 2000 - Works 7 does not qualify.

If you can find the Works CDs from your old computer, you can use them to
qualify. Insert the CD in the drive when asked for a qualifying product and
browse to the CD. You do not need to install the old version of Works.

If you do not have the old Works CDs, you can purchase the upgrade version
of Office 2003 {edition of your choice}. Works 7 is a qualifying product
for Office.2003.
