Erm, no, you're not. You obviously didn't read the EULA at all. Software
that comes with a system is OEM and is tied to that computer and cannot be
installed on any other.
Plus, even if it was retail, you'd require a second licence. The retail EULA
is very clear: -
1. GRANT OF LICENSE. Microsoft grants you the following rights provided
that you comply with all terms and conditions of this EULA:
1.1 Installation and use. You may:
(a) install and use a copy of the Software on one personal computer or
other device; and
(b) install an additional copy of the Software on a second, portable device
for the exclusive use of the primary user of the first copy of the Software.
Therefore, as the laptop is going to be primarily used by your wife, she
would require her own licence.
So I've no idea where you got the idea that you were "good to go" from
because, retail or OEM, a second licence* is required.
*In this instance "second licence" should be taken to mean "second copy".
