Installing Office XP on a winnt machine

I've had trouble installing Office xp on my winnt laptop.
It apperanetly trashes some system files and will not
reboot until I run a repair on the winnt installation.
That would be ok except my laptop , a panasonic , does not
allow a repair to take place on the machine, I must
reinstall winnt, in this process pansonic reformats the
hard drive.

Has anybody else had this problem?

Does anybody know about a work around?
