installing office xp

i have a problem installing a new copy of office xp. at
the window asking for the product key i get the first 5
letters in before the screen disappears and i have to
start again. it also appears that each time i try a
hotfix is being installed eg office xp hotfix (SP2) etc.
can anyone help me to get up and running? Thanks.

I am having the same exact problem (installing Office STE
2003 to laptop running Windows XP Home Ed. If you let
the product key screen sit there for several seconds then
it just disappears and setup stops. Of course it doesn't
give you enough time to even put it in (I've tried many
times). It seems that it may be a problem with Windows
Installer. I was able to install Office 2003 to my
desktop running Windows XP Home without problem. It
would be great if someone (MS) had a solution to this
problem.
