Installing Project Server 2003 on Windows 2003 Server

Louis

I'm trying to install Project Server 2003 on a Windows
2003 Server. The installation goes well until the end.
The installation process aborts because of an premature
error and the rolls back the installation.

I've confirmed that the SQL Database is created and
userid's. The database is being install a SQl Server
across the network. I created the log files and they
only show that the install process has encountered an
error. The Windows 2003 server is an Active Directory
controller. Could this be a problem?

As anyone seen this problem?

As anyone seen this problem?

I am seeing the EXACT problem. Installation goes as normal
and just before it complete I get the rollback. The last
thing I see is "Installing IIS virtual root".

After installing MANY times I think I have it down to when
the installation program is creating either
the "ProjectServer" virtdir, or the "MSPS2003AppPool" app
pool.

I have logged the installation (with the msi switches) and
get a 6.5Mb file which doesn't really tell me the cause (I
don't know what I am looking for).

I have an open case with Microsoft support (and have had
for a few weeks now) and really haven't had any
suggestions other than asking for more log files.

If I install on a different windows 2003 member server all
goes well. It's either a DC issue or another app issue.

Anyone else seen this?

I had this problem quite a while back, allbeit on Windows 2000, and Project
Server 2002.

I don't really know what i did to fix it - but at the time i suspected it
was because the Decision Support Objects (on the sql analysis server cd )
was not installed correctly. After i reinstalled the DSO the installation
went through succesfully....

IME, Installing Project Server, SharePoint in particular, on a DC is a hit
or miss affair for a significant percentage of users. Is it worth the
aggravation or do you have another server to go to?

I had the same problem. It went away when I booted the server. If you
have VM instances on the server, you will have to reboot the server
not just the VM instances.

David,

I am having the same problem. From the msi log, I found that the
install stopped when trying to create application in IIS.

Please let me know if you have any progress.
