Intalling New Program

I have to install a program called VIA on our system, last time we had this
program on our network we had a lot of issues Word, Excel, and Outlook. The
company had us change settings and had us check the requirements again.
Everything seemed to match up. None of our Office programs have been the
same.
Is it possible for a program to mess with Office 2000 settings?
