I recently purchased Office 2003 and see that it requires Windows 2000. I

Actually Office 2003 requires Win 2000 or Win XP. It will NOT work on Win
ME. No way around it. Hopefully you haven't opened the box. But if you did
and the store will not take it back, and it was a very recent purchase,
there may be another option.
