Issues with renaming sub-projects in a master project

Laxmi

I have a master plan with sub-projects and I have external links
between sub-projects. I need to rename the sub-project names. When I
tried re-naming, the external links are displayed now double in
number, one with the old project name and one with the new project
name. Is there an easy way to clean this up ?

thanks, Laxmi.

Have you tried closing the master file then renaming the sub-project
schedules (via Project Center)? Upon opening Project should find the new
names.

Check and rename either the project summary task (the link to display this
can be found under Tools | options) or change the name in the properties; do
this for each renamed project and then save the project. Re-open the master
project, everything should be okay.

Hi Laxmi,

I am assuming you created master project with RW and link option to
sub project. Also assuming the external dependency definitions done at
sub project level. Based on my assumption, here is the solution:

As Roland said, you have to close and check-in the master project. You
have to rename the sub project/projects from project center and
publish. Later, you have to open the master project and click on sub
project name, you will see the Project Open dialog box. You have to
choose the newly renamed project. This action will be automatically
update the sub-project link in master project with newly renamed
project.

You can delete the unwanted links (project name with old names).

Thanks
