Keep words together on a line

How can I keep words or dates together at the end of a line instead of them
breaking?

G'Day Chris,

Replace the 'standard' Space with a 'non-breaking' Space:
CTRL+SHIFT+Space. It displays as a '°', eg
4°January,°2004.
