keyboard error

An asterisk (*) appears each time ENTER is pressed. User doesn't remember
making any errant keystrokes. Searched the Outlook keyboard shortcuts but
nothing for this problem. Thanks for your time.

Does it only happen in Outlook? Does it happen in notepad or Word? Does
the cursor actually move to a new line as well?
