Labels do not print properly

When creating labels they print fine on paper and compare to the labels by
holding up to the light....but when you print them on the sheet of labels,
they do not recoginze the margin at the top and also then instead of 10 down
it printed only 9 down....what's up?

Hi Karen,

Word neither knows nor cares what kind of paper you stick in the
printer.

The rubber rollers inside the printer that push/pull the paper through
might be getting hard or slick, causing them to slip on the smoother
label stock. Or maybe because the label stock is thicker than plain
paper, the printer has a harder time handling it.

If you can borrow another printer, try that.

Thanks for the reply. It did not make sense to me that they would not print
correct. It's a brand new printer/scanner. I will save the file and try it

I still don't understand even though they printed without the top margin
which could be the feed rollers, why would they only print 9 lables down
instead of 10 as the label format was set. For example the last row should
have started with ie Fred Smith and it ended with the row above it.

Hi Karen,

Even though I'm pretty sure I know what you'll answer, I have to ask:
are you changing anything in the software between runs, besides simply
changing the paper in the printer?

Also, how are you sending the job to the printer? Is this a "mail
merge to printer", or clicking Print from the Tools > Envelopes and
Labels dialog, or did you create a separate document and print that?

Try this experiment: Make a separate label document, if you haven't
already done it. From the Labels dialog this is the New Document
button; from mail merge, choose to merge to a document instead of the
printer. Check the Print Preview: does it show the proper number of
labels? Now put one sheet of plain paper on top of one sheet of label
stock in the printer feed tray. Go to File > Print and ask for 2
copies. Do you get the same results on both sheets? If so, how many
label rows were printed? What happened to the margin?

Additionally, if you have ever added a header to Normal.dot (even if you
later deleted it), the header paragraph remains and messes up the alignment
of labels. Try changing the header margin to 0" and see if that solves the
problem.
