Legal software - help with PowerPoint Add-In

S

Sandy

One of my attorney clients uses PowerPoint extensively in
both his speaking circuit and in the courtroom. He also
admires the capability of Sanction II software, a custom
legal software which delivers the capability to view both
video clips and legal transcripts simultaneously. I have
been able to import the Sanction II add-in into
PowerPoint and can now emulate this capability in
PowerPoint.

My issues are this:
1) I cannot "rewind" the video clip/transcript while in
PowerPoint. Is there a way to do this in the VBA controls?
2) If I attempt to exit the clip before its completion,
the sound will not stop. The Sanction tech guys
suggestion I download Office Service Pack 3. While I
successfully downloaded and installed the SP3 - it did
not eliminate this problem. Again, is there a way to do
this in the VBA controls?
3) If I attempt to exit the clip before its completion,
and enter into presentation edit mode the screen flashes
relentlessly in a strobe-like manner. Is this an SP-3
issue?

Can anyone help?

Pardon my ignorance, but why do you need a third party app for this? You
can have video and animated text or any text you wish for that matter on the
slide.

I couldn't agree with you more. I've been able to create the effect you
describe, myself - so you are, indeed, not ignorant.

However, I've promised my client to investigate the Sanction/PPT link. One
reason attorneys use Sanction is because of its ability to, say, instantly
access one of thousands of legal exhibits (stored in yet another legal
software called Summation) at a moment's notices (real time in the court)
then use the cursor, while in Show mode, to instantly enlarge a specific
element of that exhibit. This replaces the Photo Story Board that most
attorney use.

That explains why the video/transcripts are in Sanction in the first place.
And -- other than the issues I mentioned before -- the add-in works quite
well for quickly importing the video and transcipt (which is often easier
and more timely than building the entire animation in PowerPoint.

Anyway, I'm always open to ways to improve the process...

Thanks,
Sandy

Actually the Sanction II add-in looks quite wonderful. For your purposes
it's video with transcripts, but it's actually video with open captioning
which is much harder to emulate by inserting a video and adding animated
text. Do you know what format the videos are? Do you link to a URL for the
video? And what version of PowerPoint are you using?

I found the directions for showing the slider on Verdict Systems web site:
http://www.verdictsystems.com/webhelp/integration/ppinsertmedia.htm

Media Control Window Options
If you wish to display the media clip with the slider bar, toolbar or
current position window visible, right click beneath the video window and
select each option you wish to show or hide from the popup menu. If an item
is checked, then the control will be visible. If the item is unchecked, the
control will be hidden.

Click on the next and back buttons in the upper right corner to move forward
and back through the rest of the tutorial.

Sandy,

No real idea why it's not working for you as I've not seen it. But I
appreciate the heads up and will take a look.
