Leveling Algorithm?

Hello All-

I am having a scheduling issues with MS Project 2007.

My project has the following layout:

- Deliverable 1 task has three subtasks.
- Deliverable 2 task has four sub tasks.
- The duration for each sub tasks is 5 days long.
- I have Fixed Duration set for each task
- The same resource works on all tasks
- There is no dependency between Deliverable 1 and Deliverable 2

When I Level my project MS Project will mix the schedule for tasks from
Deliverable 1 and Deliverable 2. What setting do I have to enable to make
sure that MS project schedules all subtasks for Deliverable 1 together and
all subtasks for Deliverable 2 together? The overall end date does not
change, but from a productivity standpoint it does not make sense for a
resource to mix tasks from one Deliverable with another. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

newPM,

You can increase (or decrease) the Priority of all the tasks of one
deliverable. You set this Priority in the Task Information dialog, General
tab.
In the Level Resources dialog, select Leveling order : Priority, Standard

Hope this helps,

Merci Gerard ... the scenario that I outlined was just an example. In my real
life project I my deliverable list is lengthy and I have multiple layers of
hierarchy in my MPP. I would like to ensure the tasks at the lowest level are
grouped together based on the resource.

If I understood your response correctly, you are suggesting that I assign
the same priority to all tasks that I want to group together? I will try that
out.

Thanks.

I think I may have answered my own question (thx for the hint Gerard). In the
Resource Leveling dialog box, I set the Leveling Order to 'ID Only' ... then
as along as my tasks are listed sequentially I should be good.

Thanka again!
