Limit assignment of resources to availability

Hello - I am using Project Server 2007. I know from using a previous
version of Server that you can configure Server to only allow
resources to be assigned to a task if the resource has availability.
For example, if John has 6 hours a day for which he can be scheduled
for projects, once those 6 hours have been assigned, John cannot be
assigned to any other tasks on that day. I don't recall how to
configure Server to do that. Can someone point me in the right
direction? Thanks.

To the best of my knowledge Project Server (any version) has not and
does not prevent the overallocation of resources. Project Server
provides ample tools that allow people to determine a resources'
availability, but can't be configured to prevent that overallocation
should a PM decide to assign the resource anyway.

What you might be thinking of is exceptions to a Resource Calendar.
If a Resource Calendar shows that a particular day or days are non-
working days due to vacation, then work can't be assigned on those
days, and work already assigned for those days will be moved to the
next working day.
