I have searched this newsgroup and the web and tried everything from
uninstall/reinstall to tweaking the Installer Products registry keys with no
luck.
Environment: Office 2000 Pro under Win XP SP2 on a Dell E310
My two symptoms are that on Limited accounts I get the "Preparing to
install... " message followed by "Please wait while Windows configures
Microsoft Office 2000 Professional" followed by "Error 1925. You do not have
sufficient privileges..." followed by a suggestion to run the Repair
utility. The only event in the event log is Error 1925.
If I make the user a Computer Administrator, all Office products start up
fine. Then if I change them back to Limited, the error comes back. Running
repair has no impact.
I made sure that there were no "Install on first use" settings anywhere in
the install dialog. I checked this twice.
My next step would be to run the Installer Cleanup Untility, but that seems
unlikely to help. After my last uninstall, I inspected the registry and it
appeared to have been cleaned out, but I don't know all the keys that might
apply: Ijust checked the obvious ones (extensions, products, microsoft
software, etc).
I was hoping that this may have been fixed by SP3 but id doesn't matter
whether I'm running under SP3 or the original version, I still have the
problem (although I don't remeber the error 1925 under SP3 but everything
else was the same).
By the way, after clicking OK on the error messages, the products start up
fine.
ONE MORE CLUE: The icons for the office products are the default icons when
the account is an administrator, but they are wrong when the user is changed
to limited. DOC files show up with Wordpad icons, MDBs show up with Paint
icons, etc.
