Line number function

Does anyone know how I can replicate how the line numbering function in Word
works?

When I am previewing a document, I want to have a checkbox outside of the
margin area, that does not interfere with the text and does not change the
way in which lines begin or end, similar to the way the line numbers are
displayed when you indicate that you want line numbering turned on.

Any ideas?

How does a checkbox help with line numbering?
Can you explain what you are doing?

Hi klav,

Sure: Define a new style that includes a frame, position left, relative to:
page.

Then put a checkbox in a paragraph by itself and format it in that style.

You already have ideas on how to do the checkbox (macrobutton field, forms
check box)?

Klaus

Other than being in the margin area, this has nothing at all to do
with the way line numbering works. It also has nothing to do with
macros.

Insert either a text box (Insert > Text Box) or a frame (from a button
on the Forms toolbar), draw the box in the margin, and insert your
checkbox in it. You can right-click the border of the box and select
Format, then set the line color to No Line to make the outline
invisible.

If you want to create a new paragraph style, a frame and its position
in the margin can be made part of the style (but a text box can't be
part of a style). Then just insert a checkbox in an empty paragraph
and apply the style, and the frame will be applied and positioned
automatically.

It doesn't help with line numbering -- my point was that I am trying to
simulate the line numbering function in a macro but instead of displaying a
line number, I want to display a checkbox.

I am trying, programmatically, to have a checkbox displayed on every single
line in a print preview but I want it to be displayed outside of the left
margin, just like the line numbering function works -- I don't want the
checkbox to interfere with the margins.
