Link problem in Election Results Powerpoint

Joel Kauffman

We have setup a powerpoint presentation to use to display election results.
We have setup a powerpoint with links to an excel spreadsheet. The election
totals will be entered into the spreadsheet and saved. We added the Update
links during show add in which it does each time through the presentation.
The problem occurs in that we have 60 some links and when it updates it takes
almost 5 minutes to update at which the powerpoint is paused. What it
appears to be doing is opening the file updating link closing the file then
open the file again update close.
Is there a way to have it open the file update all links then close? If we
have the excel file open on that computer it only takes about 20 seconds to
update. But we will be inputting the numbers into excel on another computer
and need the file open there.

Any ideas? We would love to prefect this process a bit before election
night. Thanks for you help.

Joel,
The solution in this case is to open the excel file in shared mode. Update
links will refresh information while the user is typing in the information
if you set it up as shared and it will work just as fast.

In Excel:
1.Open the workbook.
2. Tools | Share Workbook...
3. Select 'Allow changes by more than one user at the same time.
4. Click on Ok.
5. Save the workbook.

Keep the workbook open and edit it. Update links will update information in
the background because the excel file is in share mode.
