Link to excelfiles

Hello,
We have several links to excelfiles on our intranet, is it
possible to give some people the rights to save changes
directly from their browser? Or can they open the files in
excel instead of the browser?

They need Author rights to your server

You can have them open the files in Excel
- but not save back to the server unless they have author rights
