Linked Table DB Won't Open if BE DB is Moved

I've split a DB using the wizard and, as a test, I moved the back-end DB to
see how Access would behave if it's not found. To my surprise, I discovered
that it wouldn't open the DB at all. Since it wouldn't even open the
front-end DB I've got no way to update the table links. There is no error
message--Access just sits there and refuses to open the DB.

If I restore the back-end DB to the expected location, Access opens the DB
just fine.

Is there some way to open the front-end DB for relinking while the back-end
DB is missing?

Hi Alex,
Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, that approach won't work in my
situation because the DB cannot be opened. Until the DB can be opened there
is no way to run the code to relink the tables.

When the back-end DB is missing, if I click on the (front-end) DB name in
the "Open Recent Database" pane, the cursor switches to an hourglass for a
second and then it changes back to a hand cursor. That's all. The DB is not
opened. There is no message of any kind. Same thing happens if I press Shift
while clicking on the DB filename.

If I put the back-end DB back to its correct location and then click on the
DB name, it opens just fine. Any clues as to why I can't open the DB when the
back-end DB is missing??

Hi Alex,
Yes, originally I did have a Display Form set in the Current Database
Application Options. I figured that would be a problem and set it to "(none)"
but that didn't help. I also tried deleting my custom ribbon from the Ribbon
and Toolbar Options but that didn't help either. (That is also in a linked
table. I'd prefer to have that table unlinked and keep it in the front-end DB
but haven't figured out if there is a way to unlink it.)

It seems like there is still something else that is linked at startup that
prevents the DB from even being opened. The only way I can get the DB opened
is if the back-end DB is in the correct location.

But thanks for your suggestions,
Dave
