Linked Tables Slow

Wow. I have attempted to use linked tables. My goodness. I have 5 - 15
second periods where the whole access interface freezes.

I have found suggestions to correct the problem. I cannot implement
the majority because I am in a highly restricted environment (mil).

I am not asking for help - just wondering - is this common?
