linking Adobe Acrobat files

B

Brian Toller

I have recently upgraded from Publisher 2000 to Publisher 2003. While I can insert an embedded link to an Adobe Acrobat file in my Publisher document, and the link works fine in Publisher, when I go to Web Preview, or upload the site and try it on-line, the links do not open the PDF file. My mouse changes to a hand /finger, indicating there is a link there, but it does not function. In Pub 2000, I used to add a Hyperlink to the icon to make it function and open the file, but this doesn't work in Puib 2003. How can I have a PDF file accessible to my web site customers?

When this happens to me, it's usually an error in the Hyperlink path.

Yes, but I can't seem to figure out where the error is. This is my methodology:

First, I Insert an Object, as an Adobe Acrobat file, Display it as an Icon. The object is inserted in the file.
Then I add a Hyperlink on the icon, pointing it to the Acrobat file on my computer.
I make sure the PDF files are uploaded to the Web server.
In the past, with Pub 2000, the link would then point just fine to the PDF page and open it up.
In Pub 2003, nothing happens.
All my other links work fine. I have the same problem trying to embed a Word or Excel file. Never had the problem with older versions of Pub. Any thoughts?

If you look at the code you can see that the url of your pdf is your hard
drive not the web server. But I figured out your problem from your other
post.
You DO NOT "insert objects" on a web page document. Ever. Period.
See item 5 on the FAQ - http://www.davidbartosik.com/faq.htm
Upload the pdf to your server and then hyperlink the desired text or image
on your web page to the URL of your pdf file on the server.

Now I've got it. Thank you so much. You have been really helpful, as is your whole site, which i had never seen before I hit this particular wall. Much obliged.

I have been having the same problem with web development in Publisher. Have you found a solution?
