Linking from a ppt to a specific page on another ppt

Anne-Marie

I have two ppt documents on our intranet site. Now I want
to link from one Powerpoint and point it to specific pages
on the other powerpoint document.

As both documents belong to me, maybe some sort of
bookmark has to be set up in one, for the other one to
link to ?

Select the object that you want to link. Go to Slide Show > Action Settings
and select Hyperlink To. Scroll down to "Other Presentation" and select it.
In the following dialogs you will be asked to point to the presentation file
and then will be asked which slide you want to link to. That's all there is
to it.

Exactly how to do this depends on the version of PowerPoint you have. I
have 2002, and when I insert a hyperlink to an Existing File or Web Page,
I have a button that says "Bookmarks..." If I choose a PowerPoint file
and click on this button, I get a list of all the slides in that
presentation, and I can choose a specific one. There is no need to do
anything special (like set bookmarks) for the target presentation.

In 2002, I don't get an option to pick a specific slide under Action
Settings. I can only pick a specific slide when picking Hyperlink from
the Insert menu (by choosing a file and clicking on the "Bookmarks"
button). Has this changed in 2003, or am I missing something in 2002?

It's a 2 step process. First you are asked to select the "other
presentation" file. Once you do, a dialog is displayed that is titled
"Hyperlink to Slide". It lists all of the slides in the target
presentation. That's how it works in PowerPoint 97, 2000, 2002, and 2003.

Aha! You are right. I thought it worked as you described it, but it
wasn't working for me. I figured out why. It doesn't work if you are
linking to a .pot file, and it doesn't work (should be obvious, but it
wasn't to me this morning) when you are linking to a file with only one
slide. In most normal situations (i.e., anything but what I tried this
morning), it works just as you describe it.
