linking tasks between projects

Can a single task be linked to a single task in another project? Or to do
this is the Insert\project command required? If that's the case then how do
I handle the numerous 'extra' tasks/duration/etc that come over with the
Insert\Project? There's really just one task that I need to be the
successor of the other project task, not the successor of the entire other
project?

Open both projects. From the "Window" menu select new window.
Highlight both of the projects that you want to create a link between, click
OK
Now link the two tasks.
Save the individual files (go to them using the window command and selecting
the project.
Then close the master project. You can save it if you like or just close it.
