linking word text files containing footnotes

I have chapters of a book in separate word files. Each chapter includes end
notes. The publisher wants me to link all of the text (20 files) so that I
have ONE FILE with all of the footnotes appearing together at the end. The
end notes need to be numbered beginning with "1" for the first note in each
chapter?

Is this possible?

Yes. Check the options to put the endnotes at the end of the document and to
restart numbering in each section. If you have more than one section in a
chapter, however, this will cause a problem.
